NSAID’s For Spinal Disc Pain:
Side Effects

I’ve created a chart below that shows the side effects of the NSAID’s we discussed previously. I thought this would be easier because you’ll notice that a lot of the side effects are the same. In order for this chart to fit on the page, I had to abbreviate the names of the medications, so here is the key:

If you are taking any of these medications and you think you are experiencing one of the side effects listed below, you should discuss it with your doctor immediately. Please do not stop taking any medications without speaking to your doctor about it first.

In addition to that, this is not a complete list of the possible side effects that can occur (these are the most common side effects). Everyone is different and you may experience a side effect that is not on the list. However, I’ve tried to be as thorough and complete as possible. So if you are experiencing a new symptom while taking any of these medications, you should bring that to your doctor’s attention as well.

allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat
chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, problems with vision or balance (can cause Congestive Heart Failure, high blood pressure, and other heart conditions)
black, bloody, or tarry stools (can cause bleeding ulcers)
coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds (can cause bleeding ulcers)
swelling or rapid weight gain
urinating less than usual or not at all
nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay–colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes) - can cause Liver or Kidney failure
skin rash, bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness
severe skin reaction – fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling
upset stomach, diarrhea, bloating, gas
dizziness, nervousness, headache
runny or stuffy nose, sore throat
mild skin rash
blurred vision
neck stiffness, chills, increased sensitivity to light, purple spots on the skin, and/or seizure (convulsions)
ringing in the ears
